When you hear the word “Ozone”, most people think of that protective layer way up in the atmosphere that is being irreparably damaged by aerosol cans and air pollution. But down here, where we swim and eat and walk our dogs, Ozone is a big part of our daily lives.
In nature Ozone is formed by combining the sun’s ultraviolet rays with electrical charges that occur during storms in the atmosphere. It is a mobile gas and trickles down into our day to day, protecting us more than we realize. It can also be produced scientifically and used in controlled situations to deodorize and sanitize indoor air and fabrics. It can even whiten your upholstery and rugs!
Ozone (O3) is actually just a different form of Oxygen (O2), and we all know what we use that stuff for. They coexist in the water that we drink and the air that we breathe –which would be very dangerous things to do if not for Ozone, since it purifies the air and water. The extra atom (O2 vs. O3, see?) attaches itself to the impurities in the air and neutralizes them, diluting odors and pollutants. Mix that with water (H2O) and you get Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2), which we all know as a common household killer of bacteria!
At Armstrong’s we have several top of the line Ozone producing machines that we use to control odor and indoor air quality, as well as to sanitize. If you are interested in finding out more about Ozone and how it can be used in your home or rental to neutralize smoke or pet odors just give our office a call!
